Where Was Everybody?

This morning's ride into work was the first one in a while that I was able to extend a bit because miracle of miracles, I left with enough time. It was cool enough that I had to stop and put on my gloves, but just perfect in my opinion; it was one of those mornings when you think of people getting to work in their cars and wish they only knew how much nicer their mornings could be.

Consider two pictures from this morning's ride:

This?

Or this?

Easy decision, I think. Of course, even the second picture is more fun on the bike.

The thing is, in something like 7 km of riverside MUP, I didn't see one cyclist, not even any of my "regulars". Maybe everybody runs late like me. Maybe once shorts and T-shirt weather is gone, most put their bikes away. That would be a terrible shame because Fall is cycling prime time as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy it as much as you can before the snow flies! Then, if you're up for it, ride in the snow!

Present!

Oh wait, you meant the bike path, not the bloggesphere...my bad.

But I'm still here, regardless. How far is your commute to work, Rantwick?

My most direct commute route is about 6.5 km and nearly all street. My record time for that route is just over 17 minutes, but much depends on traffic lights. Today I stretched it out to about 15 km with much more bike path time.

That sounds nice. I wish I either lived closer to work, or weren't such a weenie, either one. My commute would be about 21km, and nearly all 88.5 km speed limits.

*sigh* I could live with an hour or so commute by bike instead of 15 minutes by car, right? Meh.

Not even any singers along the MUP?

That would be a big commute. My friend SteveA from dfwpointopoint used to do a 20 mile (one way, I think) commute and I thought that was pretty hardcore; not sure I could handle that.

You are nice for doing the km coversions! 88.5 km/h speed limit!

Yeah...that's what I've been telling myself. BIG commute.

Hey, when in Rome, amiright?! :)

Hey, your blog layout flipped. Pretty sneaky!

Autumn weather is the best, as far as I'm concerned.

And, how about them trees, Mr. Rantwick? Ours are starting to change...hint.

Hey, I was out there! For me, "wimping out" is taking the street route, which is about 10.7 km. If I take the pathway, it's about 13.3 km. Oddly enough, both take about the same amount of time, but the pathway is a more solid effort. I can take breaks (many, many breaks) at the stoplights on the street. My fastest time is around 25 minutes, but 30 minutes is the usual, 35-40 in winter.

I like that distance. I wish my commute were a little longer. Or would that just make me even more late? Hmmm.
