A Bump in the Road

I have been trying to lose some weight, having gained quite a lot over the last 10 years or so. I'm not really into specific diets, but I have been eating more healthy food and carefully logging what I eat along with my exercise on, looking to run at a caloric deficit most days.
I have been successful in losing a few pounds over the last few weeks. My progress is slow, but that is OK since I'm trying to learn new habits that will serve me over time rather than achieve some quick weight loss that won't last.
Lots of people have tried myfitnesspal at one time or another, so I'm guessing this food diary screen may be familiar to few of you:
The Rantwick clan has a serious problem. The other three members in it don't really care for apple pie. They are insane. Anyway, there were apple pies ON SALE just when I had a yen for some yesterday.
That's what was censored from the list above:

Hey, at least I didn't consume the whole pie. Only 75% of it. Nobody else wanted any, damn them! Plus I diligently logged it. Then I confessed here. Perhaps it is not the other members of the Rantwick clan who are insane. Perhaps.
Yer Pal,

Your weakness may be lonely in your household, but it's not only you in the grand scheme of things! That's why I have to shop with a list, a full belly, and blinders. Go in, get what's on the list - GET OUT. Do NOT stop and stare at the displays at the ends of the isles, and for Lob's sakes, don't look down while in line at the cash register.

How are you liking the Fitness Pal? I've heard of it, but haven't personally used it. Been thinking about getting an app similar to that to track my diet as well, but there are, like - eleventy-billion. Don't know which one to use! I need it to be quick and easy, otherwise I'm going to say 'screw it' after about 5 days.

I like it quite a lot... I find it easy and I'm not even using their app, which some say makes it easier still, helping of course when you're out.

I think you showed remarkable restraint in consuming only 3/4 of the pie. After all it wasn't like it was "a-la-mode". =) As for diets, diaries and the like, I know my biggest two enemies portion control and inactivity. This winter was a real killer, didnt ride a lick. And by the way, Happy-Easter. We are having a 16lbs turkey. Hopefully my son and his dorm roommates will consume enough to keep me in line. The next bumpin the road is shopping and cooking for only 2 after the kids have all gone. =)

Awesome! I love pie ... especially during long weekends when you get together with family ... I can taste those butter tarts now.

Hilarious, Rantwick! Although I can understand your three's dislike of pie (apple, or any kind), I can also understand your dilemma.

Rantwick - Dieting is a pain in the a$$. I recommend taking less processed foods, if possible and walking (in addition to cycling). While I am a reasonably healthy eater, overall, I have a sweet tooth. So, I feel your passion for the apple pie. How about baked apple with cinnamon sprinkled on it? I know it is not apple pie, but you can eat this without feeling too guilty.

Good Luck and take care.
Peace :)
