Perfect Steady Circles

There are times these days when I am upset, saddened by the heartbreaking things that are happening to some of the people I love most in the world. I spend some of my time on the verge of tears. I'll be OK, and so will they. In the meantime, however, I rely on perfect, steady, circles.

Mind in turmoil, I mount my bike and ride to work. My feet perform perfect, steady, unceasing circles. My knees go up, go down. My breath goes in, goes out. My body falls into the familiar rythm of the bicycle. The cars and birds and sun and clouds perform their prescribed duties. My wheels roll as they always do. I am calmed. I arrive at work quite capable of taking on its daily challenges.

When work is over, I am carried back into the outstretched arms of my family by my feet performing perfect, steady, circles.

It isn't always blissful on the bike. Sometimes it is just perfect, steady, circles. And that is enough.

Absolutely! I have benefited from the same therapy. May your circles continue to be good medicine.

Turning perfect, steady circles has worked wonders for me to.

Thanks All. Steve, no worries. Unless drinkin' beers on a hot Friday night is Zen mastery, I haven't mastered anything yet.

I also benefit from cycling. I jokingly say, to my coworkers, that, "cycling helps me clear-up the cobweb inside my head". It helps me stay motivated and helps me stay in shape. I get bummed out if I don't ride.

Sending a lot of positive vibes your way, mon ami!

Work on the Zen mastery - have a Labatt for me :)

There would be a whole lot less misery in the world if there were a whole lot more people on bikes. It's maddening to see how close everyone can be to the perfect melding of our mechanical and physical worlds and how few people make the connection.

Whatever's going on to bum you out I hope it resolves itself soon. Now and always, riding will make things better.

I too use the bicycle for therapy...and I also have given people the advice who are having a difficult time at whatever it may be...go for a ride. Exercise.

Thanks for the post!
